At Taiwan Web Designs, we work with clients from all over the world. One of our most exciting recent projects came from the United Kingdom — a philosopher and sociologist with a vision to create something genuinely new in the AI space. The result is Cerafyna, a multilingual AI reflection companion designed to help people explore their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences in a calm, dignified way.
This is the story of how we built it.
What Is Cerafyna?
Cerafyna is not a chatbot. It is an AI companion platform built around the idea that people deserve a thoughtful, private space to reflect — without judgment, without therapy jargon, and without the noise of social media. The platform is aimed at adults globally, with a particular focus on emotional intelligence and self-understanding.
The client, based in the UK, brought a clear philosophical foundation to the project. Our job was to turn that vision into a working, scalable web platform.
The Challenge
Building Cerafyna required more than putting a chat box on a webpage. The client needed:
A full marketing website that communicated the product’s purpose clearly and professionally. A working AI taster experience so visitors could interact with Cerafyna before committing. Voice input and voice output — so the experience felt like a real conversation, not just typing into a form. A controlled, guided interaction with an email capture gate and a natural endpoint that moved users toward registration. A system that could be expanded into a full subscription app in the future.
That combination of storytelling, AI integration, and voice technology is what made this project stand out.
The Tech Stack
We chose a modern, production-grade stack built for performance and scalability.
Next.js (React) — The entire platform is built on Next.js using the App Router architecture. This gave us fast page loads, server-side rendering, and a clean component structure that will scale easily into future phases.
DigitalOcean — The platform is hosted on DigitalOcean, giving us a robust, reliable cloud infrastructure with full control over the server environment. DigitalOcean’s performance and scalability make it an ideal choice for an AI platform expecting growing traffic.
OpenAI GPT-4.1-mini — This powers Cerafyna’s conversational intelligence. The AI personality and knowledge base are loaded server-side through a custom system prompt, keeping the client’s intellectual property private and secure.
OpenAI Text-to-Speech (TTS) — Nova Voice — Cerafyna speaks. We integrated OpenAI’s TTS API using the Nova voice model, giving the companion a warm, natural-sounding voice that matches the tone of the product.
Web SpeechRecognition API — Users can speak to Cerafyna directly using their microphone. We built a custom voice input handler that works across desktop and mobile browsers, including solving iOS-specific audio unlock requirements.
GitHub — All code is version-controlled on GitHub. This keeps development clean, trackable, and easy to manage across the team and into future phases.
Key Features We Built
Popup Chat Widget Family — We built a series of embeddable chat widgets that can be placed on any page of the site. Each version offers different configurations — voice-only, text-only, or combined — giving the client flexibility for different use cases.
Email Gate — Before a visitor can start chatting, they enter their email address. This builds the client’s waitlist while ensuring every interaction is tracked.
Turn-Limited Taster Experience — Free users get a set number of conversation turns before being guided toward registration. This creates a natural, pressure-free conversion funnel.
Voice In / Voice Out — Users can speak their thoughts and hear Cerafyna respond in her own voice. We handled all the technical complexity of browser audio unlocking, streaming TTS playback, and microphone permissions behind the scenes.
Admin Panel and CMS — The client can update page content, manage the waitlist, and control site settings without touching any code.
Google Analytics Integration — Full tracking is in place so the client can monitor traffic, engagement, and conversion from day one.
The Result
Cerafyna launched as a fully functional AI companion platform with a polished marketing site, a working voice-enabled taster experience, and a solid technical foundation for future growth. The client in the UK has a product they can confidently show to investors, partners, and early users.
